a first.

lincoln and i ventured into a very unknown world on sunday.

we actually cooked ourselves a meal.

i know, shocker!

you see, we just don't really have a lot of time (or energy) to cook right now.

plus, neither of us really know how to cook.

but i'll have you know, we will learn!

besides, we can't afford to eat out anymore.

so we cooked a meal.
and yes, it involved more than putting a frozen pizza in the oven.
our moms will be so proud!

ever tried grilled asparagus via george?
  way good.

lincoln did a great job straining the noodles.

look mom!  i even wore the apron you bought me.
for the first time. ahem.

i didn't take a picture of the final product because we were too excited to eat it.

we had:

new york strip steak
grilled asparagus
and pasta with alfredo

and it was delish!
and easy!

and a heck-of-a-lot cheaper than it would've cost us to eat that same dinner out on the town.

we are on our way to the chef world.

I started with very basic recipes, like 3 or 4 ingredients until I felt comfortable to move on. I think watching the Food Network channel and looking at their website is a huge help. The internet has been my saving grace! Also, buy a few cookbooks, Better Homes and Gardens, Betty Crocker, etc. The recipes are pretty simple.

Cooking together is so much fun :) We make grilled asparagus on the foreman all the time, yummy!! We make a dressing for ours--we mix olive oil, red wine vinegar, and whatever seasonings we feel like in a bowl and then baste the asparagus with it. We've been married for 8 months and I use the same recipi's over and over again! Here's a great idea (I did it today) Me and all my sisters and mom got together and we each picked 3 meals to make for each other..by the end of the day, we had 12 freezer meals! Just do all your cooking for one day, freeze them and you're cooking now is just popping it in the oven!

4 oz. (1/2 of 8-oz. pkg.) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened

1 pkg. (10 oz.) frozen chopped spinach, thawed, well drained

1-1/4 cups KRAFT Shredded Low-Moisture Part-Skim Mozzarella Cheese, divided

6 Tbsp. KRAFT Grated Parmesan Cheese, divided

6 small boneless skinless chicken breast halves (1-1/2 lb.), pounded to 1/4-inch thickness

1 egg 10 RITZ Crackers, crushed (about 1/2 cup)

1-1/2 cups spaghetti sauce, heated

HEAT oven to 375ºF.

MIX cream cheese, spinach, 1 cup mozzarella and 3 Tbsp. Parmesan until well blended; spread onto chicken breasts. Starting at one short end of each breast, roll up chicken tightly. Secure with wooden toothpicks, if desired.

BEAT egg in shallow dish. Mix remaining Parmesan and cracker crumbs in separate shallow dish. Dip chicken in egg, then roll in crumb mixture. Place, seam-sides down, in 13x9-inch baking dish sprayed with cooking spray.

BAKE 45 min. or until chicken is done (165ºF). Remove and discard toothpicks, if using. Serve topped with spaghetti sauce and remaining mozzarella.

Make sure you put noodles with it and it's yummy yummy yummy! If you like garlic.... get garlic pasta sauce! :) :)

i'm pretty sure i have that exact colander.

we make stirfry a lot. we buy those bags of frozen veggies, cook in skillet with chicken of shrimp, ginger, garlic, oyster sauce and soy sauce, and cook the rice first then add it all together.
we make a lot of it. it's lasts us a long time- which.is.key. the longer a meal lasts, the better! (on the budget, not necessarily on the tupperware)

and we make a lot of chilli and soups. cheapcheap!

I love your blog! I found it via chase and leah. You guys are beautiful. You should talk your loved ones into throwing you a recipe bridal shower where they give you a recipe and all the fixins to make it. Continues to bless my marriage to this day!
